So I might have been excited when this came across my dash because I’ve been in one of these multiple times and some others are on my “must visit” list.

For anyone interested:

1. Marble Caves (Cuevas de Mármol) in Chile - open to kayakers

2. Fairy Caves (Gua Pari) in Borneo - open to tourists who can handle going down and up a lot of stairs

3. Cave of the Crystals (Cuevas de los Cristales) in Naica, Chihuahua, Mexico - not open to the public

4.  Raufarhólshellir in Iceland - open to the public, has adventure tours (which is why it’s on my list)

5. Lechuguilla Cave in Carlsbad Caverns National Park, New Mexico, USA - You can only visit this if you are a very, very lucky researcher or park employee

6. Coconino Lava River Dave in Flagstaff, Arizona, USA - open to general public

7. Carlsbad Caverns National Park, New Mexico, USA - this part of the park is open to the public, and is accessible to most people!  This park has a well paved trail through the cave with handrails and an elevator.  This park has a special place in my heart.

8. Nettlebed Cave in Kahurangi National Park in New Zealand - I don’t believe this one is open to the general public, but I think you can hire a tour guide?

9. Moaning Caverns in Vallecito, California, USA - tourist destination with a vertigo-inducing spiral staircase

10. I think this is Namakdan Salt Cave in Qeshm, Iran - open to tourists and tentatively on my list.  Another picture of Namakdan Salt Cave:

Amazing site I just discovered that archives girls’ games from the 2000s

They’ve archived games from Barbie, Polly Pocket, Monster High, My Scene… the list goes on and on! It’s overwhelming how much they have!! I think they’ve archived nearly every game for every category they have. And the best thing is, it’s all online and you don’t need Flash!

www.numuki.com/games/girls/

Bless whoever is maintaining this site, seriously. The nostalgia I got from replaying these games was so intense.

If you like this site and want more, check out BlueMaxima’s FlashPoint! They’ve archived 100,000+ Flash games for play without Flash, and you can download individual ones to your computer for offline play as well as online. Includes games from American Girl, Club Penguin, Newgrounds, Miniclip, and more!

classic scifi novels by men r always like. page 1 here’s a cool scifi idea i had. page 2 i hate women so much it’s unreal

#:| #there are reasons why i stopped reading scifi in high schoolALT
#unfortunately why you won't catch me descending farther into #the genre than star wars #everyone's like read this and is just misogyny in space #wow so cool i have that at homeALT
#lit #yikes. glad i never read scifi novelsALT

guys if one more person leaves a tag like this on my post im gonna lose my mind. There Are Science Fiction Authors Who Are Not Misogynistic Men

ok i’ve gotten one too many ‘this is why i don’t read sci-fi’ comments so here’s a rec list for the people convinced all science fiction is bad and misogynistic (with something for everyone, hopefully!):

(also, btw, the book links are to the Storygraph, which includes content warnings for each one!)

this list is long enough, but have some more authors (who are not cis men) also worth checking out: rivers solomon, yoon ha lee, charlie jane anders, aliette de bodard, xiran jay zhao, mary robinette kowal, corinne duyvis

and finally, not all older/classic scifi is written by crusty old white guys who hate women!!! some iconic authors i’d particularly recommend looking into are ursula k. le guin, octavia e. butler, samuel r. delany and vonda n. mcintyre 🥰

what if i told you there was one user on the russian social network/ video sharing website odnoklassniki/oднокла́ссники that has uploaded nearly every movie ever from 1896 to the current day, mostly with subtitles. and including that has uploaded every criterion collection film in full hd with subtitles. for free. all hail ok.ru user fleurinna guta

they keep their films in unlisted folders so you cant just see them all on their profile unfortunately but ill provide links. also don’t ask me why this user separates their films in this way, i don’t know and frankly it confuses me too.

  1. EUROPEAN FILMS (sometimes includes west asian films?)
  2. JAPANESE FILMS
  3. CLASSIC FILMS (aka american and British films)
  4. MISC FILMS” (aka films from everywhere that isn’t the usa, europe, japan. sometimes films from the GDR are in here which is confusing again because communist germany was still part of europe)

this is a much better alternative to stuff like 123movies or bflix because there are no hot singles in your area or games that you wont last 5 minutes playing. hope u enjoy and let us all praise and embrace user fleurinna guta

oh heck yeah

ok.ru is always my go to for safer film finding and is great for hard to find gems

so just verifying for anyone hesitant that it’s an alright site to use and you can use it without logging in as long as you don’t mind either hitting skip on the login prompt regularly OR just fullscreen a video to avoid seeing it entirely.

Happy watching!

  • AnonymousI wanna hear these Opinions on steampunk color palettes, if you’re willing.
  • nonasuch

tbh “the Victorians did not go to the trouble of inventing aniline dyes so that we could wear neutrals” mostly covers it?

they went to a lot of effort to bring affordable screaming bright fuchsias and acid greens into the world, and we should honor their tacky, tacky choices.

let’s not forget the tacky patterns, too

    image

    oh yeah

    image

    oh fuck yeah

(TELL ME that last one isn’t a steampunk look. just try and tell me)

yes! thank you, these are EXACTLY what i meant. tomorrow I’ll take a picture of the bafflingly tacky goldenrod-and-maroon gown I’ve got at the shop

    also

    image

    this is wise, and correct.

    This is 100% true.

Oh no, no those are tasteful compared to what wild color shenanigans the 19th century got up to.  Most of them being mid-century are only ~2 colors excepting the plaid.  By the 1890s, five colors per dress was the fashion.  They…didn’t all coordinate the way we would.

    PUMPKIN WORTH

    image

I have seen mid-century dresses in electric blue.  Barbie pink

Black with photo-realistic brocade oranges.  Royal purple with GIANT POLKA DOTS.

Hey hey did you know lime green and lavender was a favorite color combo in 1895?

This one is not so much tacky as…vibrant

    image

Okay at ~1903 it’s not really Victorian but I love the melting ice cream explosion look of it

    image
    image

This dress has faded but it would have originally been a quite eye-catching shade of violet.

    image

Not that past eras were any less fond of colors even if they weren’t artificial dyes.  I’ve seen canary yellow Regency dresses and an 18th century man’s coat in turquoise velvet printed with leopard spots.  Steampunk isn’t really Victorian so much as it is ‘drapery store vomited on a sexy colorblind school marm’

    Et le piece de resistance…

    image

Yes, those orange blocks are outlined in green chenille fringe.

brb, saving that green one to my ‘Malfoy estate sale’ pinterest board

Steampunk isn’t really Victorian so much as it is ‘drapery store vomited on a sexy colorblind school marm’

    image

Pair a brightass fushia dress with a top hat and gears you cowards

    image

MORE PUMPKIN ORANGE AND FRINGE YOU COWARDS

    image

If you’re not using blood red and forty pounds of lace and trim what the fuck are you even playing at

    image

The Pragmatic Costumer calls this “The Hot Mess Dress.” It dates from around 1878. They say: “This dress has more trims than my entire collection of detash combined (detash or destash means all the little bits, pieces, and leftovers from crafting something)! On the outside alone I spot: black lace, bi-colored sandy-brown/cornflower-blue ruffles, tawny velvet, cream silk, beaded netting, cream lace, ribbon bows, ribbon rosettes, cornflower-blue buttons, and that fluffy lace collar.  For even more trim-tastic fun and draping pandemonium, here’s a shot of the back:

    image

The Pragmatic Costumer: “Trims were all the rage in the mid 1870s and 1880s, and this dress is raging harder, faster, and more extravagantly than most.”

And here’s a Worth tea gown from 1895. This really needs to be worn by a mad scientist. Especially one interested in fish.

    image

@gwengrimm Some of these are just amazing, and others sink worse than the sink we just unclogged.

I would wear that bright orange pumpkin monstrosity, just saying 🤣
